Quick Thoughts on 2012 Coachella
@diplo: [Coachella is] like a bootleg ultra w a few bands that are “safe”
AMEN!!! I’ve gotta say Im disappointed in the Coachella line up. Before even reading the @diplo tweet saying such, I told my friend @Cindee423 how the best part of the line up are the sick ass electro DJs. BUT, if I want to see that, I’d rather spend my $ going to Miami for ULTRA. Coachella’s bread n’ butter is giving us indie bands that most dont know about & are edgy. I loved learning so much last year when I went learning bout all these indie bands I’d never really heard of. This year, the best artists seem to be in the urban realm & electro. WTF? Oh, w all due respect, I grew up a hip hop head since age 3 listening to gansta rap being from LA. But, Dr Dre & @SnoopDogg as the closers? Eh…those are legends for sure but to close off such a respected fesitval. NOPE! I really think switching to 2 wkends has hurt coachella Fans were already complaining that going to 2 wkends seemed like a $ driven endeavor. I dont think this line up helps quell fans’ anger.
A friend of mine also said Coachella realizes electro music is what’s “hot” right now. That’s obvious. But, if you’ve gone to Coachella, you’ll realize they’ve been selling out tickets or close to it for for a good while. They’ve been doing well w/ ticket sales. You don’t lose focus of your brand by going w/ what’s the “hot” thing right now. That’s like EDC bringing in some pop stars like RiRi b/c they’re ‘hot’ right now? gtfoh. That’s how u end up losing out on fans & eventually losing out on ur business. You think short term, that’s how long your business will last.
